Frequently asked questions about our microchip
NO, the microchip is a passive electronic device that allows you to give your pet an electronic identification document, where the data of the pet and its owner are recorded.
It is the only legal way to prove ownership of your pet.
GPS location systems use a battery that must be recharged every certain number of hours, which makes it impossible to think that a device applied under the skin can be recharged.
When a microchip is implanted, Emergency Pets uploads the information to the website, through the web portal, and issues a microchip certificate card.
It's an electronic animal identification system. It consists of two parts: one is the microchip itself and the other is the capsule that encloses it. This capsule is made of soft glass, coated with a biofilm (it doesn't cause allergies) and is as small as a grain of rice. All the microchips we register must comply with ISO 11784/85 FDX-B standards and the ICAR code.
The microchip comes in a sterile syringe that serves as an applicator, and is only 8 mm long and is applied subcutaneously.
Implanting a chip in our pets can be beneficial for several reasons:
• Certifying ownership of the pet before any authority or person. It is impossible to alter the microchip number.
• In case of loss of the animal, both veterinarians, animal protection organizations, authorities or registered mayors' offices can access the data to search for the animal.
• If you want to leave the country with your pet, you can do so easily since the microchip is a requirement for canines and felines to leave Colombia and enter other countries in the world.
IMPORTANT!...THE MICROCHIP IS NOT A GPS
No, only the area where the microchip will be applied is disinfected. We also reiterate the importance of having the application performed by a licensed veterinary or zootechnical professional, which ensures the procedure is performed appropriately.
The procedure takes the same or less time than a vaccine, without the side effects that come with a vaccine.

Our license plate is not an electronic tracking device, nor is it a GPS that constantly sends your location. Our license plate is an analog device that doesn't require batteries and can get wet. The location notification is only sent when the QR code on our license plate is scanned; it doesn't require apps or a battery.
